Effects of Robot Support Program for the Elderly with Dementia

Abstract
Objective : The purpose of this study is to discuss the effects of applying the robot program to the elderly with dementia through domestic and foreign literature analysis and to suggest the development and introduction of various programs using robots through the results of the research.

Method : We selected only the experimental studies that applied the robot program to the elderly with dementia.

Result : Among the robot programs used, animal robot with pet motive was applied 9 times in the most, and 7 out of 11 had a significant effect on the effect, and some hypothesis was rejected in 3. In the other study, animal robot intervention did not have significant effects on cognitive function, mood state, and problem behavior of demented elderly.

Conclusion : Robot support program was found to be a useful intervention with the effect of prevention of falls, improvement of social communication, reduction of anxiety and stress, decrease of agitation behavior, improvement of quality of life, cognitive function and activities of daily living. Such interventions will be an alternative to preparing for an aging society.
